About
Serpent Pearls is a modification of the classical remedy Wumei Wan, one of the representative jueyin remedies in the 2nd century formula compendium, Treatise on Disorders Caused by Cold (Shanghan lun). Jueyin syndrome is the last and most complex of the six conformations outlined in the classic, generally featuring chronic, obstinate, and complex disorders characterized by multiple organ involvement as well as intertwined heat and cold symptoms. Wumei Wan therefore contains all five flavors of the herbal spectrum, and combines both extremely hot/pungent and extremely cold/bitter herbs. While many different types of chronic disease processes can be treated via the jueyin approach, this formula has traditionally been used most often for the treatment of parasites.
