Release Pearls is based on the design of Chai Ge Jieji Tang (Bupleurum and Kudzu Decoction to Release the Muscle Layer), which first appeared in the 15th century medical source book Six Texts on Disorders Caused by Cold (Shanghan liushu). The unorthodox design of the original formula features a clinically highly effective combination of wind dispersing herbs that simultaneously enter all three yang channels—shaoyang, yangming and taiyang. For the last five centuries, the remedy has been used to treat aggressive epidemic infections, especially when symptoms of headaches and/or neck stiffness are present.
